Autumn Term

This term we have been learning all about Newportm where we live. We began our topic with readign the story 'Detective Dog' to introduce the idea of assistance dogs. We wrote wanted posters to catch the thief in the story and learnt all about different dogs that help us in our community. We were really lucky to have a visit from the police dog unit and Guide Dogs, who told us all about the wonderful work they do for people in Newport.  

We also leanrt all about Rodney Parade as many of the children had shown an interest in learning about how things have changed over time in Newport. We made a visit to Rodney Parade and mapped our journey there using photos. We made maps for the Beebots using those photos when we got back to school.   

We also have though about how we can help others in our community with a visit to a local residental home. We made gifts and wrote letters to share with the residents, and we sung them songs. 

It has been a very term in Year 1 and we have had lots of fun together. Check our the photos in 'Sharing the fun'.
