Autumn term
This theme for the Autumn term is 'What makes the world go round? '.
The children have decided to focus on the element of Politics. We will be looking at local and Welsh politics, including the Senedd and meeting and interviewing our local Newport MS: Jayne Bryant; moving onto Europe and finally the USA in time for the Presidential elections.
The children worked together to produce ideas and suggestions for this term, which was collated into our Pupil Voice planner.
Jayne Bryant MS visits Crindau
Years 5 & 6 were very fortunate to be visited by the Newport MS, Jayne Bryant.
As part of our Politics and Law learning, the children wrote questions about life as a politician, the role within the Senedd and Government, her career and many other great, relevant questions.
The children were fantastic and great ambassadors for Crindau. I was so proud of each and every one of them, and Mrs Bryant thought they were amazing too.
They displayed respect for Mrs Bryant, and each other and were fully engaged with the session.
Crindau would like to say a huge Thank you to Mrs Bryant for her visit and the work with the classes.
Snowing at Crindau ❄️🌨️❄️
The children took a short break from their learning to explore and enjoy the snow.
For many of our children it was the first time they had experienced snow. They had a lovely time.

The children take a lot of ownership in what they learn. Ask them how they used the Jamboard on Google Classroom to collaborate on documents with their classmates.
Our working wall
Some of the work completed during the first few weeks - they've been very busy.
They completed shields with a focus on themselves. This had areas to draw their national flag, as well as include some of their favourite things.
After completing work on the United Nations Convention Rights of the Child, the children chose four aspects that they were relevant within our school - and created images that coincided with each point to make them accessible for all learners.
As a class we looked at how to stay safe online in school, using safe searching and reliable sites. The conversation then progressed to Social Media, and how to stay safe when using those. They then created information posters using a range of text and images to convey the important messages and guidelines.
Taiko drumming. 22nd October.
We were lucky enough to have a special workshop for Taiko drumming. The children loved the opportunity to play a range of different drums.
They were very impressive with how they were able to keep beat and rhythm. I was so proud with how they all participated in the session. I believe we have some future musical artisits in our class. :-)
First aid course. 5th November.
The class participated in a First Aid course run by St John's Ambulance.
The children learned many new skills, and I was very proud of how keen and sensible they were within the session. Ask them about the training.
They looked at CPR, choking risks and how to help someone if they are affected, and how to put someone in the recovery position.
The lady from St John's was so impressed, she has asked the children is they would like to become cadets.
