Get in Touch

Reception - Mrs Otton

Hello and welcome to our Reception class page.

I started working at Crindau Primary as a Teaching Assistant in 1999 and have worked with all year groups. This inspired me to become a teacher. I completed my teacher training in 2016 and taught in Nursery for three years and now in Reception.

When I am not in school I like to watch Newport Rugby play. I also like to travel.

We will endeavour to promote a love of learning based around the core purposes:

  • Ambitious, capable learners who set themselves challenges and learn and apply new skills.
  • Healthy, confident individuals who can build relationships, be resilient and be as independent as possible.
  • Ethical, informed citizens who are kind, respect the rights of others and understand that their actions have an impact on others - being kind to the environment.
  • Enterprising, creative citizens who can take risks with their learning, share ideas and solve problems.

General Information

Uniform

The school uniform consists of a red sweatshirt and a white polo shirt. These must be worn with black trousers, skirt or pinafore dresses. In the summer pupils will have the option of red and white summer dresses or black culottes or shorts. Children should wear all black shoes as part of the school uniform.

Crindau Primary sweatshirts with a school badge can be bought from BEAM, Cambrian Road.

PE is usually on a Monday and Wednesday. Please send your child into school wearing their PE kit consisting of a white t-shirt and black shorts. School jumpers and trousers can be worn over the top when it gets colder. This will save time as the children will not need to change and be able to have a longer PE session.

Please make sure that clothing is labelled with your child's name, especially jumpers and coats.

Book Bags

Your child will need a book bag so that reading books can be sent home.  Books will be sent home on a Tuesday and Friday. Please send book bags back to school on Monday and Thursday.

Drinks and snacks

Please ensure that your child has a bottle that can be refilled with water and if you would like your child to have a snack at break time, please send a piece of fruit.

Schoop

We no longer send paper information so you will need to download the Schoop app onto you phone. Select Reception and Whole School so that you receive the appropriate information. I send a weekly Schoop updating you with what the children have been doing during the week.

Sandpit

We are able to use the sandpit on a Tuesday. Please send in wellies on a Tuesday and we will send them home the same day.

Daily routines

Your child will take part in daily phonics sessions to learn sounds and start to blend them together to read words. They will also practice writing the letters and forming them correctly.

Reading takes place each day in small groups and the children sing a new rhyme each week.

During the numeracy session, your child will sing number songs and rhymes, learn to recite, order and write numbers and encounter areas such as shape, length, height, weight, temperature and pattern.

There will also be access to the outdoors to complete learning activities.
