Year 1 - Mrs Hooper
Croeso i Blywdden Un!
Welcome to Class 1
Hello and welcome to Class 1H class page.
Our Year 1 Team

Hi, a little about me (Mrs Hooper)... I have been teaching at Crindau Primary School since 2011. During my time here, I have worked in all of the KS2 year groups. Before joining Crindau, I worked as a teacher in London where I taught Year 1, Year 4 and Year 5. Before teaching, I was a Nursery Nurse for 10 years. Although I have not yet worked in Foundation Phase in Wales, my own children are currently in Reception and Year 2 so it is the perfect time to join the Foundation Phase team. I love reading and walking my dog Snoopy, who also happens to be my husband's Guide Dog. I am very much looking forward to the year ahead and getting to know all the wonderful children in our class. Love Mrs Hooper :-)
Hi,
I am Mrs Sims, I have worked in Crindau Primary for since 2011. I previously worked in Rogerstone Primary.
My experience in education is primary around Foundation Phase. I love working with children in a school setting. I find it very rewarding. Year 1 is a particular favourite year group of mine.
I have two children myself, Abbie who is 24 years old and a Neonatal Intensive Care Ward Sister and Libby who is in her last year of Physiotherapy in Manchester. Both my children make me incredibly proud. They both enjoy playing Hockey and I have supported them with this and find that its now a love of mine.
General Information
Here is some general information about our class:
Book Bags
When we start to read in groups, the children will take their book bags home on a Tuesday and a Friday. The book will be familiar to them as they will have read it in class with a teacher. Please take the time to listen to your child reading the book a few times. Repetition helps to build confidence in reading and it is now that your child will develop how they feel about reading. Please return the book in your child's book bag on the days above so they can be changed for a new book.
Morning Snack and Water Bottles
Your child will be given a water bottle in school that is labelled with their name. You child will be able to refill the bottle with water in school. Any other drinks your child brings to school can eb drank at lunch time only.
You child will be given the option of having a carton of milk at Morning Snack time. Please can you make sure that your child has a healthy snack to eat in the morning, ideally a piece of fruit. They find it a long morning if they have no snack to eat!
P.E./ Outdoor Learning
We will be doing outdoor activities everyday.
PE is on a Wednesday. Please make sure PE kits are in school.
This should consiste of dark (navy or black) PE shorts, joggers or leggings plus a plain white t-shirt and trainers or plimsols.
Spellings
Every week your child will be given a new set of words to learn. These can be found in the bee link below. They need to learn to read the words first and then practice writing them. Please practice reading and writing these words to help build your child's confidence at reading and writing. They will not be tested on them at the end of the week.
